If “food is medicine” for humans…what about for our pets?

If “food is medicine” for humans…what about for our pets?

We view our dogs as our best friends & family members, yet don’t feed them as such.

The global pet food industry is projected to grow by 11.1% in the next 4 years, reaching a market volume of $224.5 billion by 2027 (Statista)

Yet most of the generic kibble we feed our pets is equivalent to the ultra processed junk in grocery stores we try to avoid in our own diets.

It’s much better for dogs’s metabolisms and GI systems to eat unprocessed foods…

than it is for them to consume highly processed meals with fillers, binders, preservatives, and other artificial ingredients.

Fortunately with the humanization of pets that’s taken off since the pandemic, the tides are slowly shifting in how we care for our pets.

(*1/2 of Millennials & 1/4 of all American households have gotten a pet since 2020)

(*There are also now more dogs than children in the United States)

Founder & CEO Katie Spies of Maev knows this first hand since her inception of the brand began when her own dog developed GI issues and she started making his food from scratch.

The organic demand Katie received from friends & neighbors asking her to make homemade food for their dogs is what highlighted the gap in the market she had the potential to fill.

And fortunately this early stage organic growth has translated directly into Maev’s high LTV customer and retention 🙌

How Maev stands out amongst other dog food brands 👀
→ Vitamins & minerals in all blends are formulated by certified veterinary nutritionists
→ Made with raw, high quality ingredients that enable stronger absorption, digestion, and metabolic function
→ All blends are rigorously tested for animal food safety
→ Optimal macronutrient profile that’s specifically designed for dogs
(*Fun fact: dogs don’t biologically require carbs, yet traditional kibble is 40-60% carbohydrates)

They launched D2C in March 2020 and since then have raised $10M in Series A funding led by VMG Partners.

Stay tuned for a future puppy skew from Maev that’s currently in the works 🐶
